PIROSKA MOLNÁR

Piroska Molnár, born not far from Miskolc, in Ózd, is the recipient of awards and recognitions, starting from being a member of the Company of Immortals to the Actress of the Nation. One of Hungary’s greatest actresses, her talent is boundless, her secret unfathomable. Her theatrical, television, dubbing and film roles are so numerous that it is almost impossible to list them all: she is the actress with the most premieres in the Hungarian Theatre Database.

As she said in an interview, “An actress is an actress because she has all the human qualities and she amplifies what the role requires. That’s acting… It’s my job, it’s fate, it’s what I have to do at a thousand percent. You always get back as much as you put in. Theatre is a timeless thing. There is a demand for it.”

She has appeared in hundreds of films and television productions, from Hello, Vera to Godmother, from The Stationmaster Meets His Match to Taxidermy, from Nobody’s Daughter to Dollybirds. The elegance, wisdom, and depth of her character forming is almost unsurpassed in everything from the grandmother in The Notebook to the grandmother in Auntie Pepper. She founded the Grandmother Award for her young fellow actors, and now she is the recipient of the CineFest Miskolc International
Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.

A few years ago, Géza Bereményi congratulated her as follows: “There’s a stage performance in the Theatre of the World / No more can fit the crowded auditorium / The stage manager of the world whispers shakily: I want Piroska Molnár on stage, now / Then he shouts: Piroska of Our Heart / You were born an actress, you came into the world as such / Goddess Thalia created you, let her give you many more years.”
