FÖLDES MY FAMILY

2021 / HUNGARY / 120 min

The prestigious secondary school of Miskolc, the Ferenc Földes Grammar School was founded in 1953 by merging two of the cities long-established institutions: the József Lévay Calvinist and the György Fráter Catholic Grammar School. The traditions and the faculties of the two schools have been united to serve the aim of educating the youngsters in accordance with a new intellectual trend. Who taught in the newly formed school? How did they manage to keep the traditional values and create an intellectual workshop that still operates today? The school’s alumni, past and present
teachers, and headmasters talk about their memories and personal experiences. In the film, we learn about some remarkable lives that started at Földes. It is not common that grandfather, son, and grandson have all been students at Földes, lending it the nickname “the school of generations”.
