The program of 2021 is probably the strongest of all years. From the entries the pre jury selected 38 films from 23 countries to compete for the title of Best Short Feature.

Quo Vadis, Aida?, premiering in Hungary at the CineFest was nominated for the Oscar for Best International Feature in 2021. The film was made in an international co-production, with a very high budget and speaks shockingly about the Srebrenica massacre.

The Kosovan film Hive by Blerta Basholli, for the first time ever in the history of the Sundance festival, had a clean sweep of the awards in 2021: it won the Best Film, the Best Director and the Audience Award as well.

Pál Veres, the mayor of Miskolc, Zita Horváth, the rector of the University of Miskolc, and Tibor Bíró, festival director and managing director of the Cinemis Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement that strengthens the ties between the parties at the press conference on last Friday. All parties agreed that the international festival is one of the region’s cultural values to be protected and preserved.

Denis Coté, the head of the jury in the 2019 edition of CineFest, brought his new film to the competition program of 2021. The Social Hygiene premiered at the 2021 Berlinale and debutes in Hungary at the CineFest. In Berlin Coté was awarded with the Encounter Award for best director.

In the last 16 years the CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival became the most well-known and, based on the feedbacks, the most popular film festival of Hungary. In every September the film professionals and the audience have a chance to watch the most outstanding, most valuable films of the year – mostly for the first time, since all films in the competition program and the Open Eye selection are Hungarian premieres.

Two documentaries have already accepted our invitation to the CINEDOCS competition program of the 17th CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival. The Hungarian premier of the 2021 Sundance World Documentary Directing Award -winner ’Sabaya’ and the world premiere of the new Hungarian documentary ‘Volt egyszer egy képregény’ [Once upon a time there was a comic book] will be held at the CineFest.
