It's the lunchtime rush at The Grill, a New York tourist trap serving thousands of customers on a typical Friday like today. Money has gone missing from the till, and all the workers are being questioned. Most are undocumented immigrants, struggling to defend their jobs, their only toehold in the world. When Pedro is accused of stealing the money and then discovers that Julia had an abortion, he snaps, spiralling towards an act that will bring the kitchen to a grinding halt. The film was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlinale.
