The Fly was the first Hungarian film to win an Academy Award – but it wasn’t the director, Ferenc Rofusz, who received the prize, as he was not allowed to travel to Hollywood. The film and its maker received many awards at home and abroad, from the Kossuth Prize to the Szent István Award and the CineFest Lifetime Achievement Award. The discussion will be moderated by Péter Muszatics, curator of CineClassics, and will start on 10 September at 5 pm in the Béke Hall.

At the 1981 Miskolc Film Festival, Rofusz decided to withdraw The Fly – so that his colleagues would not have to compete with an Oscar-winning film. The festival then awarded him a special fair play prize. The Last Supper was made in 2018 after a forty-year delay: in 1978, it was not allowed to be made for political reasons.
