2023. September 02. Saturday 09:58

Two films from Cannes (The Goldman Case; Blackbird, Blackbird, Blackberry), Venice (Victim), Karlovy Vary (Red Rooms), among others, will be screened on Saturday – as well as two screenings with audience meetings, as the creators and cast of the documentary about local tattoo artists (Ink) and the director of Sound of Nomad: Korjo Arirang will be present.

Screened in Venice and shown here in the Competition Program, Slovak-Czech Victim is a gripping drama about a woman torn between her family and the right path in her search for the truth. When the son of Ukrainian immigrant Irina is attacked, the whole town stands in solidarity with the family and condemns their Roma neighbors who allegedly committed the crime. But soon a different truth begins to emerge.

Tickets for the film are available for 1.000 HUF and are recommended to be bought in advance.

From the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight program, Blackbird, Blackbird, Blackberry is a romantic drama with an artistic sensibility that draws on the rich tradition of Georgian cinema. CineFest’s first competition film touches on pervasive themes of emancipation and the right to defy social norms with unusual lightness and humorous detachment.

Tickets for the screening are available for 1.000 HUF and should be purchased in advance.

The opening film of the 2023 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight (Quinzaine des cinéastes) and one of the year’s most remarkable films is The Goldman Case. In 1976, the second trial of Pierre Goldman divided France. The far-left activist was accused of four robberies, one of which resulted in two deaths. Goldman denied all along that he had anything to do with the murders. French director Cédric Kahn is entering the delicate genre of courtroom dramas in a big way with his film version of this legal battle.

Tickets for the film are available for 1.000 HUF and are best purchased in advance.

The Ink is about the history, past, present and possible future of tattooing, and within it, of Hungarian tattooing, exploring how tattooing emerged from low culture to become an independent art form. The screening of the film, which is part of the CineDocs competition program, will be followed by an audience meeting with several internationally renowned Hungarian tattoo artists, including László ‘Boris’ Borsos, András ‘Indián’ Galler, István ‘James’ Gémes, Brigi Kis, Csaba Müllner and Zsolt Sárközi, who will answer questions from the audience together with director Márta Anna Kempf.

Tickets for the screening are available for 1.000 HUF and are recommended to be purchased in advance.

The story of the documentary ‘Sound of Nomad: Korjo Arirang‘ dates back to 1937, when Stalin deported nearly 200,000 Koreans from the Russian Far East to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Among them were the troupe of the Koryo Theatre in Vladivostok, who decided to protect and preserve their culture in their new homeland. The work can be seen in the Open Eye program. The screening will be attended by the film’s director, Soyoung Kim, who came to the festival as a member of the CineFest international jury and will be happy to answer questions from the audience.

The film will be shown only once at the festival! Tickets for the screening are available for 1.000 HUF and can be purchased in advance.

Screened in the CineDocs competition program, Rule of Two Walls is an intimate view of the war in Ukraine, as seen through the eyes of Ukrainian artists who have stayed in their country to continue creating in defiance of aggression. Blurring the boundaries between what is seen in front of the camera and what is witnessed behind it, this film, which has already proved its worth at the Tribeca Film Festival in the US, with nine-time Emmy-nominated actor Liev Schreiber as executive producer, explores what it means to make a film in a time of war.

Tickets are available for 1,000 HUF and are best purchased in advance.

The Red Rooms, shown in Karlovy Vary and screened in competition program at CineFest, is the most innovative and disturbing cinematic film of the year. Ludovic Chevalier is accused of the brutal murder of three underage girls. Unlike most people, Kelly-Anne is fascinated by the man, becomes obsessed with him and attends his trial. The line between reality and fantasy becomes increasingly blurred for her.

Tickets for the screening are available for 1.000 HUF and should be purchased in advance.
