On 14 September 2024, the awards of the 20th anniversary CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival were handed. The Norwegian Loveable won three prizes, but the Hungarian January 2 and the American Dìdi were also awarded. The audience prize went to the Norwegian film The Arctic Convoy. The Fly was the first Hungarian film to win an Academy Award – but it wasn’t the director, Ferenc Rofusz, who received the prize, as he was not allowed to travel to Hollywood. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Turkish-Hungarian diplomatic relations, this year’s festival is prepared with a special program called “Turkish Days”. The Turkish program will take place between September 7 and 9. Zsuzsa Mihalek, set decorator for Poor Things, won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. The award was shared by James Price, Shona Heath and Zsuzsa Mihalek, who worked together. The Poor Things, screened at CineFest, won 4 awards, with the film’s main character Emma Stone winning her second Oscar. Directed by Jorgos Lánthimos, the film shot in Hungary and competed at CineFest in Miskolc after Venice, received 11 Oscar nominations. Yorgos Lanthimos’ film Poor Things received 11 Academy Award nominations, Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall got 5 nominations and Celine Song’s Past Lives 2 nominations. Wim Wenders’ film Perfect Days, which premiered at CineFest, also received an Academy Award nomination. The film will compete in the Best International Feature Film category. In total, 4 films from CineFest were nominated for 19 Academy Awards. A great pride for us and huge congratulations to the filmmakers!!!
